Our mission
GHORA GHURI exists to make Bangladesh legible to its own travellers and to careful visitors from elsewhere: accurate information, honest pricing in taka, local employment, and routes that put money into the districts being visited rather than into a chain in the capital. We publish a destination database instead of a brochure - 142 places, each with a best-time window, a realistic duration and a price range - because a traveller who can compare Kuakata with Inani in one screen makes a better decision than one sold a single postcard.
How the company started
It began in 2019 as a single HiAce and a weekend habit: driving friends from Khulna to the Sundarban edge, to Ruppia char, to the moss-covered courts of Puthia, and explaining what the tiles meant. Requests outgrew the weekend. The company was registered in Khulna with an approved tour operator licence (DCTA), a small permanent team, and a rule inherited from those weekends - the person who plans the trip is the person who answers the phone.
The first real season, winter 2019-20, ran 34 departures. Then came the two quiet years, during which the team wrote the destination database instead of selling tours, walking and photographing 140-plus places across all eight divisions so that the information would be ours rather than copied. Since reopening, the same database has driven everything on this site: the search, the maps, the packages and the quotes.
What we are good at
- Multi-division overland loops where public transport is weak - north Bengal, Sylhet's haors, the coast east of Cox's Bazar
- Sundarban boat itineraries: licensed vessels, approved routes, permits filed before departure
- Heritage interpretation with trained guides at Paharpur, Mahasthangarh, Bagerhat, Puthia and old Dhaka
- Group logistics for universities, corporate off-sites and diaspora families (14–120 travellers)
- Photography-driven timing: tides, harvest, festivals, first light, market mornings
Responsible & sustainable tourism policy
Summarised below; the full text is the same policy used on tour briefings.
- Carrying capacity. Groups cap at 18 for shared departures and 40 at sensitive sites (Sundarban reserves, haor villages, hill tracts). Snorkelling and swimming landings on St. Martin's are timed to avoid coral exposure at low tide.
- Waste. No single-use water bottles on boat trips - refill points at every listed hotel. Crews carry a return bag; nothing is left on chars or in the mangrove. Guests are told before departure.
- Wildlife. No feeding, chasing, drone-flights over nests, or night-spotting with high beams in the reserve. Tiger sightings are never promised; guides keep 40 m from deer fawning areas and follow forest-office closures.
- Local money. Guides, boatmen, cooks and drivers are hired from the districts we operate in; homestays and community-run properties are prioritised over chain hotels where quality allows. At least one meal per day is taken at a local establishment rather than the hotel.
- Culture and consent. Portrait photography of residents is by explicit permission and paid if requested; religious sites follow local dress and entry rules; hill-tract visits observe community protocols and the restrictions in force at the time.
- Carbon and distance. Day-trips beyond roughly 250 km one way are actively discouraged in favour of an overnight; internal flights are replaced with AC bus or train where the time cost is under three hours.
- Disclosure. Commission received from hotels or launch owners is disclosed in the quote notes; we do not accept undisclosed kickbacks.
